The Five LayersWeekly Notes

Weekly Notes

How weekly notes auto-aggregate seven days of entries into rolled-up summaries, charts, and a Wheel of Life snapshot.

A weekly note is what happens when seven daily notes start talking to each other.

It's auto-created the first time you visit a week, and it lives in 02 Weekly/[year]/. Filenames look like 2026-W17.md (year + ISO week number).

What's Inside

Top to bottom:

Same idea as daily notes β€” a themed rotating banner, plus a navbar for jumping to adjacent weeks, months, etc.

Alias + Summary

Two editable fields:

  • Alias β€” a short title for the week ("Crunch on the project," "Recovery week," etc.)
  • Summary β€” a paragraph capturing the shape of the week. Write it yourself, or hit the AI Summarize button and Time Garden will assemble one from your daily entries.

⭐ Ratings

  • Average rating β€” auto-computed from each day's rating
  • Rating bar chart β€” one bar per day of the week, color-coded green/yellow/red

You'll see your week's rhythm at a glance β€” the dip on Wednesday, the bounce on Saturday.

Every image you embedded in a daily note this week appears here automatically. (See The Picture Gallery.)

πŸ“‹ Logs

Three auto-aggregated lists:

  • Progress β€” every #progress tag from your daily notes
  • Ideas β€” every #idea tag
  • Highlights β€” every #highlight tag

These become the searchable memory of your week. (See Quick Notes β€” Highlights, Ideas, Progress.)

πŸ—“οΈ General Overview

A table of the seven days, each row showing:

  • A clickable link to the daily note
  • The day's alias

Hover over any row to preview the day, click to jump in.

☸️ Wheel of Life

The week is the only layer where you actually fill in the wheel. You rate eight life dimensions (spiritual, career, relationships, health, growth, recreation, social, finance) on a 1–10 scale, with optional summaries.

You can fill it in by hand, or hit the Wheel of Life AI button to generate it from your daily summaries.

This is the data that powers every monthly, quarterly, and yearly Wheel chart β€” so investing five minutes once a week here pays off massively long-term.

πŸ’¬ Q&A

Ask the AI anything about the week.

ISO weeks (Monday β†’ Sunday). Week 1 of any year is the week containing the year's first Thursday β€” Obsidian handles all this for you, but it's worth knowing because some weeks at the start/end of a year technically belong to a different year than the date you'd guess.

When Should I Open My Weekly Note?

The Sunday-evening ritual

Most users open the week's note once on the weekend β€” they fill in the Wheel of Life, write a short summary, and look at the rating chart to see how the week actually went. Five to ten minutes. That's it.

The daily notes are where you live. The weekly note is where you reflect.

If you'd rather have Time Garden auto-open weekly notes on startup instead of dailies, see Changing Daily Note Opening on Startup.

How It Connects To Other Layers

  • Pulls from: 7 daily notes
  • Pushes to: the monthly note that contains it

The connection is automatic. No manual linking required. Just keep using your daily notes and the rest fills in.
