What is Time Garden?

Time Garden is a sophisticated, free Obsidian journaling system that turns daily entries into long-term insights through five auto-aggregating layers.

Time Garden is a sophisticated journaling system for Obsidian that transforms daily entries into long-term insights. It's free, privacy-focused, and designed for people who journal consistently and want their past to be queryable, not just archived.

What It Does

Time Garden creates a five-layer temporal structure that automatically organizes your life:

  • Daily notes capture what happened each day
  • Weekly notes aggregate seven days into summaries
  • Monthly notes compile weeks into overviews
  • Quarterly notes show three-month patterns
  • Yearly notes reveal annual trends

Each layer automatically pulls data from the one below. Charts, ratings, and galleries populate themselves. But you'll still write your own summaries and reflections—Time Garden provides the structure and visualization, you provide the insights.

Core Features

Beautiful, Motivating Design

Every note is color-coded by day/week/season with rotating banners. The interface isn't just aesthetic—it makes you want to write. Users report that Time Garden's visual polish solves the hardest journaling problem: consistency.

Automatic Data Visualization

  • Rating charts track your mood over time
  • Photo galleries compile automatically across all layers
  • Quick notes (ideas, progress, highlights) aggregate into searchable logs
  • "This day from different years" shows historical entries

Wheel of Life Assessments

Rate eight life categories (health, career, relationships, finances, etc.) weekly. Time Garden charts your progression across months and years, making patterns visible at a glance.

Seamless Integration

Time Garden merges into existing Obsidian vaults. Already have a personal knowledge system? Add Time Garden as your journaling layer. Starting fresh? It provides a complete foundation.

Privacy-First Architecture

Everything lives locally on your device. No cloud required. No data leaves your computer. Sync across devices using iCloud or Obsidian Sync—still encrypted, still yours.

What Makes It Different

Most journaling apps treat entries as isolated events. You write Monday. You write Tuesday. Six months later, you have 180 disconnected pieces of text.

Time Garden treats your journal as a dataset. It automatically aggregates, visualizes, and makes your past queryable. The system does the pattern recognition work so you don't have to manually reread hundreds of entries.

It's not the simplest journaling tool. It's the most powerful local journaling system available in Obsidian.
